This is the ideal machine for that delicate project: model building, toy manufacturing and precision work. It cuts soft wood (e.g. bass wood) up to 1 3/16" (30 mm), hard wood up to approx. 25/64" (10 mm), plastic (including circuit boards) up to approx. 5/32" (4 mm) and non-ferrous metals up to 5/64" (2 mm) with standard scroll saw blades. The machine has a very stable ribbed die-cast aluminum saw frame with 11 13/16" (300 mm) throat. The blade guide is equipped with an integrated blower. The patented head-part is height-adjustable in 3 positions and offers numerous advantages: The lifetime of the saw blade is tripled after shortening it twice (teeth in the middle part of the saw blade are finally used, too). With the head in the lowest position, working with a blade shortened to 2 23/64" is even more precise. The machined worktable of die-cast aluminum has a size of 6 19/64" x 6 19/64" (160 x 160 mm) and is equipped with an adjustable longitudinal stop and graduated miter gauge (0-90°). The ABS plastic body provides a very practical sliding door on the right side of the housing for the removal of saw dust. The saw is powered by a 110 - 120V motor (85 W) for prolonged use, low noise performance and even supported by a quiet and wear-resistant toothed belt drive, running in a ball bearing assembly. The machine offers an electronically controllable stroke rate from approx. 150 - 2,500 strokes/min.

 "Proxxon DS 115/E Scroll Saw" 2010-07-13

The Proxxon scroll saw is a wonderful tool for detailed work on jewelry and other physically small projects. I use it to initially shape wax forms to be cast. It does a great job. With the blade cut to the shortest length, it can be precisely controlled.



I agree with a previous reviewer that cited the extremely poor instructions.



Blade changing is a bit unorthodox but with practice it's passable. It's very important to install the blade so that it makes contact with roller guide. Also, as recommended in the instructions, cutting the blade to shortest possible length greatly improves accuracy. The blades are easily cut to size with normal medium-duty wire cutters.



I was surprised to find that the unit included crosscut and rip guides. These have proven to be very useful assets.



The saw is very well made for a relatively inexpensive item. If you are doing model level work, I highly recommend this saw. However, if you are into large-scale projects, it's not the tool for you.

I really like this little saw!! I have a larger scroll saw but wanted something smaller and more useful to me in my model building activities. The Proxxon DS115/E fits the bill nicely. Be aware if you want to slice through 1 inch thick hardwood this isn't the saw for you. But, if you want to use it within the capabilities recommended by Proxxon it really shines. I've cut balsa up to 1/2" thick, 1/8" thick walnut and basswood, 1/16" various plastics and, with a jewelers saw blade, have cut templates from 1/16" aluminum. The capability of using shortened blades is a real plus. It is a bit slower in cutting than a larger saw (one that has more HP and stroke length) but that allows for the precision I wanted. Proxxon recommends mounting it to another board or the bench but I haven't found that necessary thus far. No scroll saw is great at ripping long parallel pieces and the Proxxon is no different (owners manual mentions this) - most don't have a rip fence even though the Proxxon does. When used within its capabilities this is a great little saw.

The Proxxon scroll saw is very small but with big performance. I use it to cut exotic hardwoods and parts for ship models. I have used larger scroll saws and the Proxxon is the easiest to use and to setup. Did I mention price? And service? both receive 5 stars. If you are thinking of a scroll saw, The proxxon might be for you.

If you have a large garage with room for a real table saw, a band saw, a jointer... I envy you. If you have a closet-sized "workshop" where the best you can hope for is to build boats to fit in a bottle, then maybe this scroll saw will help you with your projects. You would think that a tool this small would find its place in jewelry making. It doesn't. It is nearly useless for cutting through metal. It cuts through seashells, ivory, plastic and thin softwood nicely. So the possible applications are fairly limited. It is basically a model maker's tool. Especially useful when you are working in wood, plastic and very thin metals. Not recomended for heavier work.

Dremel lives up to it's legacy for nice precise products.

This saw works great especially with sharp blades. Add a light for visibility and a blower or vac to keep things clean and it is first rate!



Several years ago I worked with a friend using his "brand new budget priced" saw, I recall it was very hard to make clean cuts even with new blades. Could of been the wood or that the blades he had were not meant for that wood.



I paid a little more for this saw but it is now 10 years later, Couldn't be more pleased with it.



Purchased it to cut a pine wood derby car. When the saw arrived I made several test cuts on rough 2x4 material, until I knew I could cut nice clean lines. Cutting the Pinewood Derby car blank was like cutting butter!



I could of paid more but don't think I would of gotten a better saw for my purposes.



Before ordering it I read a bad review for this same saw on another site. That reviewer needed a band saw for their project not a scroll saw!



When I ordered this saw off of Amazon, I used the free shipping option, and expected it to take the advertised week+ from Georgia (I think was the location). Boy was I shocked to check the Tracking number and find that it was already on truck for delivery to my house 2 days after ordering!





Personally my only Complaint is not having enough time in the shop to use it!

I have sent my Dremel scroll saw back for repairs for the second time--same problem both times. It simply self-destructs. All of a sudden it makes a loud hammering sound for no apparent reason. The tech. said it was the eccentric which makes the arm go up and down. Anyhow, Never again will I buy a Dremel produce. Although they repair the things free it is still not worth the hassle and expense of sending it back (two times at $24.00 a pop my expense. I will sell this one and buy something that will work.

Although this is a decent book for beginners and I like the concept of progressive exercises, I found the instruction to be lacking. How do I handle grain? What are the best blade and feed speeds for what thicknesses and species of wood? There is much more and better advice given in The New Scroll Saw Handbook by Patrick Spielman. I would advise to buy it first and read it cover to cover and then if you want the progressive exercises buy this workbook.

This book is extremely logical, written in standard English, and assumes that the reader knows nothing (exactly what I need). My instructor at a local woodworking shop who was teaching a scroll saw class used a few of the exercises in the book -- starting with the exercise on the cover and working up to the taped butterfly! I was so excited that this book had me doing inside cuts so quickly! I'm looking forward to completing the rest of the exercises in the book. If this book is good enough for a highly experienced scroll saw expert to use as an effective teaching tool, it's certainly good enough for the rest of us novices.

I bought my scroll saw then tried to cut some stuff. Needless to say it was a disaster! I discovered this simple looking tool that looked so easy to use in online videos is not so simple to use and you actually need to learn certain skills in order to do things. This is the book to buy if you are looking to learn. I have done the examples multiple times and learned the basics and now I have advanced onto some simple patterns outside the book. Without this book the scroll saw would just be sitting there gathering dust and not saw dust that it makes now!

This is the ideal machine for that delicate project: model building, toy manufacturing and precision work. It cuts soft wood (e.g. bass wood) up to 1 3/16" (30 mm), hard wood up to approx. 25/64" (10 mm), plastic (including circuit boards) up to approx. 5/32" (4 mm) and non-ferrous metals up to 5/64" (2 mm) with standard scroll saw blades. The machine has a very stable ribbed die-cast aluminum saw frame with 11 13/16" (300 mm) throat. The blade guide is equipped with an integrated blower. The patented head-part is height-adjustable in 3 positions and offers numerous advantages: The lifetime of the saw blade is tripled after shortening it twice (teeth in the middle part of the saw blade are finally used, too). With the head in the lowest position, working with a blade shortened to 2 23/64" is even more precise. The machined worktable of die-cast aluminum has a size of 6 19/64" x 6 19/64" (160 x 160 mm) and is equipped with an adjustable longitudinal stop and graduated miter gauge (0-90°). The ABS plastic body provides a very practical sliding door on the right side of the housing for the removal of saw dust. The saw is powered by a 110 - 120V motor (85 W) for prolonged use, low noise performance and even supported by a quiet and wear-resistant toothed belt drive, running in a ball bearing assembly. The machine offers an electronically controllable stroke rate from approx. 150 - 2,500 strokes/min.

 "Proxxon DS 115/E Scroll Saw" 2010-07-13

The Proxxon scroll saw is a wonderful tool for detailed work on jewelry and other physically small projects. I use it to initially shape wax forms to be cast. It does a great job. With the blade cut to the shortest length, it can be precisely controlled.



I agree with a previous reviewer that cited the extremely poor instructions.



Blade changing is a bit unorthodox but with practice it's passable. It's very important to install the blade so that it makes contact with roller guide. Also, as recommended in the instructions, cutting the blade to shortest possible length greatly improves accuracy. The blades are easily cut to size with normal medium-duty wire cutters.



I was surprised to find that the unit included crosscut and rip guides. These have proven to be very useful assets.



The saw is very well made for a relatively inexpensive item. If you are doing model level work, I highly recommend this saw. However, if you are into large-scale projects, it's not the tool for you.

I really like this little saw!! I have a larger scroll saw but wanted something smaller and more useful to me in my model building activities. The Proxxon DS115/E fits the bill nicely. Be aware if you want to slice through 1 inch thick hardwood this isn't the saw for you. But, if you want to use it within the capabilities recommended by Proxxon it really shines. I've cut balsa up to 1/2" thick, 1/8" thick walnut and basswood, 1/16" various plastics and, with a jewelers saw blade, have cut templates from 1/16" aluminum. The capability of using shortened blades is a real plus. It is a bit slower in cutting than a larger saw (one that has more HP and stroke length) but that allows for the precision I wanted. Proxxon recommends mounting it to another board or the bench but I haven't found that necessary thus far. No scroll saw is great at ripping long parallel pieces and the Proxxon is no different (owners manual mentions this) - most don't have a rip fence even though the Proxxon does. When used within its capabilities this is a great little saw.

The Proxxon scroll saw is very small but with big performance. I use it to cut exotic hardwoods and parts for ship models. I have used larger scroll saws and the Proxxon is the easiest to use and to setup. Did I mention price? And service? both receive 5 stars. If you are thinking of a scroll saw, The proxxon might be for you.

If you have a large garage with room for a real table saw, a band saw, a jointer... I envy you. If you have a closet-sized "workshop" where the best you can hope for is to build boats to fit in a bottle, then maybe this scroll saw will help you with your projects. You would think that a tool this small would find its place in jewelry making. It doesn't. It is nearly useless for cutting through metal. It cuts through seashells, ivory, plastic and thin softwood nicely. So the possible applications are fairly limited. It is basically a model maker's tool. Especially useful when you are working in wood, plastic and very thin metals. Not recomended for heavier work.

This saw is good for nothing. Maybe if you want to cut paper.... I bought it to cut 1 mm aluminum. It cuts... But never straight. It is a big joke. Keep the money.

Esta serra não serve para nada. Talvez para cortar papel. Comprei para cortar aluminio 1mm e acrilico 2mm e ela NUNCA corta reto. Uma vergonha. Guarde seu dinheiro.
