I was very disappointed when I used the RYOBI Scroll Saw, It shakes badly, the blade doesn't cut very well, and it is nearly impossible to get it to cut a straight line, no matter how careful I am. I've been cutting thin wood for making model buildings and cool wood boxes for children for years using a sabre saw. I get more accuracy with a hand held sabre saw than with this table saw. So much for making things easy on myself, and creating better jewelery boxes and trunks. Just so it wouldn't be a total loss, I converted the thing into a Paint Bottle Shaker. It still functions as a less than satisfactory saw, but now, it's also a fabulous paint shaker for my Humbrol and Floquil paints. Thanks RYOBI! I've always wanted a hundred Dollar paint shaker.

I have been a loyal Amazon customer for years, and have almost always been very happy with the service and quality of items I have ordered. I am NOT one of those people who find something to complain about in every situation.
However with this Ryobi scroll saw, someone at Amazon completely missed the mark. The saw arrived barely packaged at all, just thrown into a box with almost no protective packaging at all. Several parts were badly bent and damaged, but then after I bent them back into roughly the correct position, the saw wouldn't even turn on. After fiddling with the power cord for several minutes I was at last able to get an electrical connection, but only intermittently.
Before ordering this item, I had seen similar problems reported in several other reviews. Being a trusting soul by nature, I assumed that these were isolated incidents and that Amazon wouldn't deliberately ship me a defective unit. Now it is clear to me what is going on: after one of those previous unhappy customers sent his broken saw back, the shipping department just threw it in a new box and resent it to me. And after I return it, this pattern will be repeated until someone finally is too downtrodden by life's misfortunes to send it back. Maybe there are only a few broken saws making the rounds to all these unhappy customers? Apparently this is the real meaning of "factory reconditioning" in this case. Regardless of the validity of my conspiracy theory, there is really no excuse for the incredibly negligent packing job the stoned shipping department slackers did with my original order.
I see in the other reviews that some people were actually happy with the scroll saws they received - so apparently Amazon does have at least some reconditioned Ryobi scroll saws in decent shape. Hopefully I will get one of the good ones next time around. And hopefully the banged-up one I got will finally be thrown out and not sent back out again to the next innocent victim. As if the world actually worked that way. Caveat emptor.

I ordered this saw despite the poor experience of others, and I'm sorry I did. It arrived today with the table mount and the air spigot broken off. In other words, it's completely useless. The saw came 'packed' in a big cardboard box with some plastic pillows - it was basically rattling around loose, so no wonder it was ruined.
You can pay your money and take your chances that you'll get an undamaged saw, but I wouldn't if I were you. The guy I spoke to when I was getting the return authorization told me that this is pretty common with these shippers - "it's a work in progress with them" is how he put it. The packaging was so bad it was laughable - but if I'd been in a hurry for a saw, I wouldn't be laughing. I wouldn't buy another product from them, that's for sure.

I have already sent in a review which in essence said, "I bought this for my grandson who has never used a scroll saw." To me, it is NOT as powerful as my thirty yr. old AMT's -- but they don't have hold down and blower features. For the money, I believe it's a "fair" buy -- and since my grandson hasn't used one before, he will think it's a wonderful saw.
Yes, I did try it out after I aligned it and gave it to my grandson.
It arrived well packed and you couldn't tell it from a brand new saw. I also bought my grandson a Ryobi Miter saw and a Makita TableSaw with stand from CPO. Though it looked as if someone had used each (from the saw dust), both saws were good as new. From MY Experience I DO RECOMMEND CPO for refurb equipment -- and I emphasize "from my experience". It seems some other contributor did not have my fortunate experiences.
