 "Beginner saw only" 2007-03-14
By J. Gibbons (Ft. Worth, TX)
I have bought this scroll saw in 1993. The large capacity has been very helpful. Overall, the saw did was I purchased it for, but I was sure glad to get the Delta saw with the graphite arms a couple years ago. The Grizzly saw vibrated excessively. I clamped it to a kitchen table, and it still was vibrating very much. Other annoying problems experienced is the blade clamping guards always loosening and the connection between the motor and the arms came loose. This machine would be good for a starter if you lacked the money to purchase one with less vibration; consequently it is now in the attic waiting for my daughter when she moves out.

 "feathures" 2006-01-28
By scrollerbear (Colorado)
I cut sheet metal (24 guage cold rolled steel, copper and aluminum) with scroll saws. I would like a larger saw as a second or third saw.

The "c" arm type of saw is usually far more aggresive when cutting metal. Since I do not cut thick packs of material, the differance of the cut from top to bottom on this kind of saw would not matter too much.

Of course, the saw would have to have a quick change type of blade system for me. I use a lot of blades. It should have at least 1700 rpm and preferably a belt drive speed control.

Sounds some what like the Delta Q-3? Yes it does. However, I have found that the quick clamp blade parts Delta now sells do not hold up well. Wear of the "link" on the top blade assembly is excessive in a short period of time. The "link" is made of soft metal and should be hardened metal. I have found three out of four new top and bottom quick clamp blade assemblys that I purchased would not even work as designed.

Some one out there needs to manufacture a good, larger size, quality industrial scroll saw at a resonable cost. That unfortunately is not likely to happen.

I have hoped that Grizzly Tool would do so.

"Very sloppy cuts, tons of Vibration" 2005-07-09
By nada (unknown)
This is one of the worst tools I have in my shop,First off it will only take Pinned type blades which limits the cuts you can do,Second while it is crafted entirely from cast iron(which is normally a good thing for good shop tools)in this case it seems they used a very soft iron, which flexes too easily, the cutting arm at full speed is not only moving up and down but is moving from side to side on my unit there is about a 3/4 inch side to side movement(this is with no pressure on the blade) so when cutting you have to take into account the side to side travel.

another thing to consider is since the arm is moving up-down,and also side-side there is ALOT of vibration,My suggestion is buy a scroll saw with a stiffer arm assembly.another point of interest is the table while it is large and made entirely of cast iron they chose to mount it by using 2 screws,1 on front of table 1 on the back which allows you to set the table miter, pivoting on the 2 screws and locking it in place with a knob on the front, and while this setup may work with smaller lighter tables it just doesnt seem to work well with the large heavy table on this model,in retrospect I would not have purchased this saw if I knew how it operated.

 "Never Again" 2010-04-08
By N. Sinklier (Austin, TX)
First off I love tools and have quite a collection, but they have to be reliable. I bought this maybe a few years ago and have used it only a handful of times and I just burned out the second one. The first one stopped working while doing some light routing work on some pine, which is a soft wood. I sent it to the company, who replaced it for free, and just burned out the second one after using it probably two or three times. Most recently it was used to cut off a stripped screw, that's what killed it, a screw. Anyway, I'm very disappointed and would not recommend this tool, or really any other Dremel. I suppose there's always Rotozip.

Bought the tool a couple years ago from home depot. Tried to use it to smooth out some cuts I made on melamine laminated particle board, and the motor burned up after about 15 minutes of use. I didn't even bother sending it back since it was obviously a design flaw that wouldn't be fixed by getting another of the same model. This tool is junk.

I've worked this thing pretty hard a few times, perhaps a bit too much for it's size, I don't recommend using it for cutting through tile grout, at least not more than a few inches worth. For all my small hobby cutting/grinding tool needs it works ok.

"Dremel 400 Up in smoke" 2009-12-06
By Handyman in Pa (PA)
I am going to echo what many others have said. I have used my 400 xpr reasonably for a year maybe once a month. Today I was cutting with it, making sure the vents were clear because I know it can get warm, when it started making an arc welding type of noise and smoke began spewing out. I stopped it and although it was not hot at all, I waited a bit and tried again. It went click, click zap, zap, zap and began smoking like rubber in a bonfire. Fortunately I was out in my shed with lots of ventilation. I am disappointed in this Dremel product. I will try a different brand from now on.

 "Amazingly very versatile tools" 2009-11-13
By A. Tejo (Middle Village, NY)
I ordered this on Sunday, 07, 2009 arrived the next day. I'll post more reviews about the tool once i get to know them well.

This is a follow up review(01/19/2010) of Dremel 400-6/90 series XPR. I couldn't be more happier with the product, I am satisfied with the purchase. The tools has so many functions. I could do a lot of projects around the home with the set alone. Without having to buy too many different tools.

I would not view this as a con; the heat exhaust design, could traps debris, particles, or dusts etc. But I invest in Dust Remover (for cleaning keyboard or pc). Helps to keep the tool clean.

 "made in China!" 2010-03-01
By MrGagget (Chicago, IL)
I'm a big fan of Proxxon tools. They really make some nice, quiet preforming tools. Now this tool is ok for a scroll saw (kinda a quirky tool at best), it's quiet well made and does the job. But, I was really surprised to see that the saw was made in China! The only complaint I have is part of the reason I'm willing to pay more for Proxxon tools is to keep people like me (those living in Capitalist countries, paying Capitalist style bills) employed in skilled factory work. With this particular offering from Proxxon, although well made, all I feel like I did was buy just another subsidized ChiCom product, that undercuts workers in the West just to benifet some corporate bottom line. Not really appreciated by me Proxxon, please don't copy American business practices, your quality and economy will end up suffering!

Unit advertised as new showed up in a box that had obviously been opened before. Motor would not hold a steady speed even with no load. Motor made strange buzzing sound and seized up entirely within minutes of being turned on. I would not recommend this unit to anyone.  "Don't expect too much." 2009-11-11
By AWBoater (USA)
I was very disappointed in this tool. I bought it to cut out a 12" x 6" panel in 1/4" thick fiberglass with 1/16" aluminum on one surface. Since it used standard jig saw blades, I figured it would be up to the task.

The primary reason I used this item rather than a jig saw is that I had a restricted area where the jig saw would not fit.

It made it about half way through the job when it quit working. When I disassembled it, I found it had nylon (or perhaps simply plastic) gears, which were rounded smooth. The manual does caution against running the tool too fast, and I did heed that, but its supposed to be able to cut through 1 1/2" material, so I figured it should have worked for my application. But at any rate, for almost $30, it should have metal gears.

Unless you are cutting thin or soft material, get something heftier, like a pneumatic saw.

 "Useless." 2009-07-02
By R. Duterte (New Brunswick, NJ United States)
I've tried using this saw on multiple occasions with multiple materials, and it's just useless. Originally, I thought it was my own fault, attempting to cut some pretty thick plywood. But I recently attempted to cut plywood that was maybe an 1/8" thick and it took forever. I finally gave up and went to Lowes to buy a HAND coping saw, and it was much faster.

I know it's less than $20 here, but I think you're better off getting a dedicated jigsaw.

"Nice attachment, but not as usefull as advertised" 2009-05-09
By Ravenant211 (Upland, CA USA)
I bought this from a local Lowe's when I bought my XPR400 Dremel tool. I was building a guitar amp cabinet actually and just wanted something to make a few straight cuts in some smaller sections of plywood. This seemed adequate based off it's list of features and claimed abilities. I didn't expect it to do as well as a powered jigsaw for example but figured that it would do well enough for my limited needs. I also needed to make 4 rounded corner cuts and since it claimed to be able to do this that convinced me to try it.

The piece assembled easily and with no fuss. It started up and functions like it should mechanically. The problem is that it just lacks the needed amount of power to perform to the standard it claims. I turned it up to it's maximum and it wouldn't even get a quarter of an inch into the plywood before the dremel would start to overheat and slow down. I let it do this twice, the second time it slowed down almost to a stop and the whole unit felt VERY hot to the touch. I decided not to risk it after that as I didn't want to damage the dremel. I was very careful to not cover up the air vents on either piece. I held it with both hands as directed and the wood was very securely clamped down. I also proceeded slowly and tried to let the tool do the work, it would never grab and cut on it's own though. Plywood is not a hard wood and should not be difficult to cut with a jigsaw attachment.

I ended up just going back to Lowe's and buying a powered jigsaw. It cut the plywood like butter, was able to do the rounded corners like I needed and was not that much more expensive than this unit in the store.

The dremel tool works great for it's intended uses, I even used the dremel to smooth out the rounded corners I cut with the jigsaw. This attachment however is very lacking. It may perform well with very thin sheets of wood or metal or perhaps with something like particle board or drywall. I decided to keep it despite the lack of performance because I do have to cut drywall occasionally and so this may come in handy. I will try it out next time to see if it has any uses at all.

I decided to give it two stars because the tool may work well for lighter duty uses that I haven't tried it with yet, but it's definitely not able to do what the packaging information claims. Unless you need something for small projects with light materials save your money and just buy a powered jigsaw, you probably won't have to pay that much more than you would for this!

"Good if you do not already have a jigsaw." 2009-03-25
By Dave (Franklin, TN)
I have only used this attachment once. It worked fine but when you attach it to the Dremel tool you end up with a tool that is quite high and a little awkward. If you plan to use this attachment a lot, you should first consider a full size jigsaw. Also, this attachment only works with the Dremel 400 XPR. I think you could buy a full size jigsaw for less than buying the 400 XPR with the MultiSaw attachment. However, Dremel makes a small planer for use with the 400 XPR that is quite handy. So, if you were going to buy a 400 XPR, the MultiSaw attachment and the planer would be reasonable additions. Also, I think Dremel made a mistake by making attachments that only work with one model of tools. By doing so, they are missing a big piece of their own market by not designing an attachment that will work with all of their tools. If this attachment worked on all of the Dremel tools I would have rated it with 4 stars.
